I am working on a conversion system for changing gears that does not require any programming of the SAM or any other unit in the car. I have used Jaguar XF gear paddle switches which are easy to mount. The gear up and down is transmitted using a small radio module and the receiver will connect to the original SE Drive PCB. I have designed a small logic board that connects between the receiver and the SE Drive PCB which switches and routes the signals correctly when changing gears, the logic fools the SE Drive into thinking you are changing gears on the gear lever and not on the steering wheel. I am after the full circuit so I can see if there is an easier way to interface the receiver and the logic interface board.

A easy way to realize the paddleshift without activation keys and programming already exists for Smarts with ZEE before BJ 2003.

Look at this site!

This little box will be connected in the cable connection between the SE Drive and the ECU.

The output of the SE Drive is the Input of this box and the connection to the ECU is the output of this box.

The paddleshift of the smart is based on the Voltage level of the horn connection.

If you press the up or down Button of the paddleshift, the voltage level of the horn connection assumes a defined value.

The resistors in the paddles form a voltage devider and the voltage Level takes on a value depending on the resistors.

The voltage level of the Horn connection will be guided via the cicuit of the pcb.

And the box will form the switching commands for the ECU.

I think your logic board should have the same functions to modulate the switching commands like this box, in this case based on the signals of your Paddle Receiver Module.

The switching commands to the ECU are based on the Informations of the Pins 3,4,5 and 8 from the SE Drive Unit.

Pin 9 is for the sending of the switching mode Manual or Automatic to the ECU.

The Connections between the SE Drive and the ECU will be listed on that site.

And the complete connections of the ECU will be listed here.

I think it will be a problem to get a detailed full schematic or complete circuit diagram of the SE Drive. 🥺

This is a well-kept secret of Mercedes/Brabus.
