Smart For Two 450 Coupe...issue with central locking button behind hazard lights

Empfohlene Beiträge

Hi all. Hope you are well.

I'm facing a weird issue with my Smart Passion 450 ( 2006) 700cc.
The central locking from key fob works perfectly. When I drive off, the car autolocking activates as it should. So far so good....
The problem appears when I want to unlock the door from the inside so that a passenger can open from the outside after the autolock has activated.
I press the "lock/unlock button on the triangle control panel right behind the hazard lights ( see picture ) , but it does nothing.... whether stopped in neutral, whether just getting into the car... pressing that button does nothing. Has anyone faced something similar or can shed some light as to what to look into? I do suspect the button switch itself but cannot be sure.

Thanks

I've been driving the very same 450 for 21 years w/o even knowing that this grey-ish arc-like button can be used to UNlock the doors. I've just never been in a situation than would have demanded using it to emergency-lock me in. To be fair, autolocking has always been activated. Can you still unlock your car from the inside by opening the driver door just a bit? Or by bending over the passenger seat and opening the passenger door from the inside?

Thanks for your reply Josmarlanger.

The autolock works perfectly, locking and unlocking from the FOB Key also works perfectly. If I reach to the passenger side, I can open the door perfectly. Just the button doesn't work. In the other Smart my wife had before, pressing this button you could lock or unlock the doors from the the inside. If the autolock was activated, all you needed to do was press that button when stopped and then someone could open the door from the outside as normal.

This function does not work on our Smart so I'm trying to see if I can fix it.

Hello Saxo,

I just tried this function at my Smart 450. I found, this button can just lock the doors. After locking the doors with this button, further actuations of the button have no further effect. It is just a lock-button without an unlocking function. I think with using the autolock it is the same. This button cannot unlock the doors, regardless of which function was used to lock the doors.

If you have another Smart with this button having an unlocking function too, the function may have changed by smart over the years. My Smart is a ZEE model from the year 2001. It seems, your Smart is a late SAM model from 2006. So I suppose all 450 models have this locking-only function. Which Smart model does your wife have?

Regards, Hajo
