A easy way to realize the paddlesift without activation keys and programming already exists for Smarts with ZEE before BJ 2003.
Look at this site!
This little box will be connected in the cable connection between the SE Drive and the ECU.
The output of the SE Drive is the Input of this box and the connection to the ECU is the output of this box.
I think your logic board should have the same functions to modulate the switching commands like this box.
The paddleshift of the smart is based on the Voltage level of the horn connection.
If you press the up or down Button of the paddleshift, the voltage level of the horn connection assumes a defined value.
The resistors in the paddles form a voltage devider and the voltage Level takes on a value depending on the resistors.
The voltage level will be guided via the cicuit of the pcb.
And the box will form the switching commands for the ECU.
The switching commands to the ECU are based on the Informations of the Pins 3,4,5 and 8 from the SE Drive Unit.
Pin 9 is for the sending of the switching mode Manual or Automatic to the ECU.
The Connections between the SE Drive and the ECU will bei listed on that site.
And the complete connections of the ECU will be listed here.
I think it will be a problem to get a complete full schematic or circuit diagram of the SE Drive. 🥺
